Ric Meric was born in Marseilles (France) in March 1948.
After two years of study in Philosophy (1966-68) at the University of Aix-en-Provence (France), Ric traveled throughout the European continent. He also went twice to India overland, mostly for the interest of the trip itself.

He wrote numerous newspaper articles, as well as two stage plays performed at the Festival d’Avignon (F).
In 1978, he created his first drawing "Salvador DALI, doubly reversible portrait," starting from a tiny photograph of the Master.

He continued his artistic pursuits learning classical techniques of oil painting through independent study.
As he studied the old masters’ works, he began to study the psychology of Freud and Jung.
Ric also delved into the esoteric traditions and began a long immersion into speculative alchemy and oriental philosophy.

Ric produced not only quality work but also quantity: medium and large size paintings, triptych, such as the astonishing “Les Jardins de la Mémoire” (“The Gardens of Memory"), conceived from 1979 to 1983, incontestably his closest homage to H. Bosch, the famous Dutch painter.
Among other works, he conceived his own Tarot cards, based on his studies of alchemy.  He painted the 21 major arcane with oil on canvas. He's actually completing the whole series of Tarot cards, creating them on computer.

For eight years, he painted without showing his work, lived in the countryside in the south of France, leading a life that allowed him to dedicate most of his time to painting. When Ric showed his work to the world, art lovers immediately recognized its quality.

In 1988, he met a German executive from Hamburg who became his agent. He introduced Ric to his circle of friends. Over the years, his agent acquired various paintings of Ric’s until owning an impressive collection.
Ric took a hiatus from his painting production in 1994 to spend five years writing an essay about psychology
and types of personalities based on years of research. The essay is currently available in French.

In 1999, Ric learned how to use a computer, a wonderful tool for such a visual artist.

Beginning in 2000, he created huge murals in hotels in Germany, along with his girl-friend, the artist Syl Chad.

After returning to the south of Spain in 2004, Ric began a new creative period. He produced visual art through digital art. He created a new kind of picture combining abstract and figurative styles.

In 2008, the couple decided to start a screenwriting career. Their first script “TANGLED AFFAIRS” has been awarded in several screenplay contests in the USA. A second one is in progress.

In 2009, SYL & RIC returned to a first love: they created an elaborate visual art show, based on their graphic and digital works, using the latest digital techniques of video projection.

SYL & RIC are now settled in Marbella (Spain).

Ric Meric has done very few exhibitions, although many of his paintings have been sold to private collectors. His artistic career has been supported by what we call in French “le succès d'estime.”

Now and then, Ric Meric's goal is to track the greatest mystery of the created world: the double nature of all things. His main concern is to send clear and pleasant messages for the soul, to bring positive feelings to his fellow humans. So, one should not be astonished to find the traces of this quest in the majority of his pictures, in which the Masculine and the Feminine figures are reconciled or clashed, the top and bottom, the inside and the outside merged, the heat and the cold harmonized despite the violence of the primary colors which he uses, in their pure state.

If one adds to that a very marked leaning toward wild nature and an unquestionable misanthropy, one will understand that his public life and his celebrity were reduced to their simpler expressions. But be sure that Ric Meric is communicating with us, maybe with our subconscious too.

Ric used to say that his paintings are like books, for they have to be “read.” He defines his style as “Narrative Hyper-Surrealism”; modern painting using a classical technique, inspired by Breughel, H. Bosch, M.C. Escher and Salvador Dalí.

Most of Ric’s paintings have been digitally treated and can be reproduced in any size and on any kind of platform.
